Favour is an expression of kindness towards an individual, either by a fellow man or by God. The demonstration of favour is usually unconditional. It comes whether that person merits it or not.

Another word that is commonly used in place of favour is grace. Some have defined grace to be unmerited favour. This is very correct.

Favour makes a man to receive approval in the sight of men without effort. What others laboured for without obtaining any good result, he just gets the good result without any labour.

In Genesis 6:8, it was stated that “… Noah found favour in the eyes of the LORD” (NIV). The King James Version says, “But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.”

We can see as indicated above that favour and grace are synonymous. Noah was saved by God’s grace (uncommon favour), not by his strength.

The favour from man has limitations as it may be subject to human errors of unrighteousness.

God is the only giver of uncommon favour and He demonstrates this based on unconditional love for all (Acts 10:34; Deuteronomy 10:17; Romans 2:11).

The most uncommon favour ever demonstrated is God’s unconditional love towards mankind (Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 5:8).

The Bible accounted for several individuals that enjoyed the uncommon favour of God. They include: Mary, the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 1:30), Moses (Exodus 33:17), Lot (Genesis 19:17-20), Joseph (Genesis 39:21), Samuel (1 Samuel 2:26), even our Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 2:52).

One thing is common to all the biblical examples of those who received uncommon favour from God, they were well positioned. No wonder God’s uncommon favour located them.

Do you need uncommon favour from the Lord in your life? You can get it through Jesus Christ. So, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).
